POOL OF NOTHING THAT KNOWS WHERE IT’S GOING
2023
Commissioned performance at the Momentary and Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, AR
The Pool of Nothing That Knows Where It's Going is a queer psychedelic explosion leading us on a journey through time and transformation.
Focusing on the caterpillar's transition to becoming a butterfly, Khoshbin takes the audience into the moment where the caterpillar eats itself and dissolves into a pool of nutritive goo full of imaginal cells. These imaginals are the blueprints for the different parts of the butterfly's body, and they've existed inside the caterpillar since before it was born. As they start to emerge and transform into something new, the caterpillar's old way sends immune cells to destroy them. The imaginals start coming faster and faster until they outnumber the immune cells, clumping together to form a community and burst out collectively towards change. We've all got imaginals inside us, and we find them together as we move, play, sing and transform through the time portal in this hour-long participatory performance.
